INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police say a person died after being shot in a north side neighborhood late Sunday morning.

Online police reports show that Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Shawnee Drive, near Grandview Drive and West 71st Street, around 11:12 a.m. to investigate a person shot.

Police arrived to find a victim with a gunshot wound, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

IMPD says they have detained a person, but have not indicated what may have led up to the shooting.

A public information officer was expected to release more information later Sunday.

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A man died early Sunday morning after being shot and injured in the parking lot of a Kokomo bar.

The shooting happened around 1:37 a.m., according to the Kokomo Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the Greatt Escape, 2411 N. Washington St., on a report of a fight.

As police arrived, they heard several shots fired from the parking lot. After securing the scene, investigators found 31-year-old Braylen Johnson of Kokomo lying unconscious with a gunshot wound.

Medics rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m.

Police have not made any arrests and say it is an “active investigation.”

The biggest concern in the near term is the potential for heavy rainfall Sunday afternoon into early Monday, with 1 to 3 inches possible in parts of central Indiana and locally higher amounts where storms repeat. After that, temperatures stay pretty seasonable, mainly in the 70s to near 80, before lower-end storm chances begin to return later Wednesday and into the back half of the week.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — Former Banks staffer Max Engling on Saturday became the second Republican in as many election cycles to upset an incumbent secretary of state at the state party convention.

Heading into Saturday, Republican delegates faced four choices for secretary of state: current Secretary of State Diego Morales; Knox County Clerk David Shelton; Max Engling, a former staffer for Sen. Jim Banks; and conservative activist Jamie Reitenour.

Engling, Shelton and Reitenour all attacked Morales’ record, some more directly than others. Engling and Shelton in particular raised the specter of electability against the well-funded Democratic nominee, Beau Bayh.

“If we lose this office, we can lose everything else,” Engling said. “The secretary of state is the chief guardian of election integrity. And we must have integrity both in our elections and in our elected officials. They go hand in hand.”

For his part, Shelton pointed to his record of running elections in Knox County and said he is the only candidate who is not “riddled with scandals.” Meanwhile, Reitenour accused Morales of going back on his 2022 pledge to require paper ballots for all elections.

Despite his incumbent status, Morales cast himself as an outsider being unfairly targeted by establishment Republicans. He accused supporters who have deserted him of “stab(bing) me in the back” and said it all came down to a noncitizen working in his office who he said was in the country legally.

“I served in the Indiana National Guard as a legal noncitizen. If you trust people to give their lives for this great country, we believe we can trust them to work for our fellow Hoosiers,” he said. “They have smeared me with false allegations hoping that I would resign and drop my campaign, not because of anything I have done, but because they are afraid of Democrats and the liberal media.”

Engling finished the first round with 715 out of 1,631 ballots cast, nearly 44% but not enough to secure the 50% plus one required for the nomination. Shelton was second with about 33% of the votes and Morales had a little more than 14%. After Reitenour was eliminated for having come in fourth, some delegates who had voted for Morales in the first round voted for Engling. It was enough to give Engling about 53% of the vote on the second ballot and thus the nomination.

After the nomination came down, Engling said he’s not worried about rivals having a head start. Engling joined the race for secretary of state just before the convention filing deadline in May.

“We are one Republican team. We know that. We’re going to move forward as a unified team,” he said. “We are going to bring young folks together. We are going to bring our folks that are in the older generation all together and say we’re pressing forward, we’re not looking at what the other folks are dong.

Besides Bayh, Engling will face Libertarian Lauri Shillings in November. In addition, former Republican Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is collecting signatures to appear on the ballot as an independent under the Lincoln Party label. Ballard has until June 30 to submit the required signatures. On Saturday, his campaign announced he has now collected more than 52,000 signatures. Ballard based his early campaign on criticism of Morales’ conduct in office but, after the convention, Ballard told News 8 the fact that someone else won does not change his campaign

“We think this is bigger than what we’re doing. The voter choice, the fact that we have to do it differently in that office, we have to be independent and nonpartisan, as both parties have been not that once they’re in that office,” he said. “It didn’t matter who won today […] because we now have major party candidates, neither one of them have ever been in charge of anything in their life and I’ve been in charge of the city of Indianapolis with 7,000 employees and a billion-dollar budget and several things in the Marine Corps.”

Bayh also downplayed the significance of Engling’s upset win.

They are tired of the corruption, insider dealing, and waste of taxpayer money that Max Engling and the political insiders pulling his strings have enabled for years. INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — The Indianapolis Fire Department said on Saturday that while no one was hurt, six adults and five children were displaced due to a fire on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

A post on social media from IFD said the fire happened at noon at an apartment on the 2500 block of East 10th Street. The fire impacted four units.

IFD said most of the residents were not home when the fire broke out, and those that were managed to evacuate safely.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to get the fire under control. One firefighter reportedly sustained a slight heat injury and was taken to get checked out.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The displaced residents are working with the Red Cross for shelter.

TYRE, Lebanon (AP) — Iran on Saturday said it closed the Strait of Hormuz because of Israel’s attacks in Lebanon and warned that while negotiators were going to Switzerland for talks with the United States on their interim agreement, not much likely will happen if the fighting doesn’t stop.

Key mediator Pakistan said technical-level talks will begin Sunday, with Qatari mediators also participating.

Iran’s joint military command said the strait was closed because of the U.S. “clear breach of its commitments” by failing to end the war. The interim deal is meant to stop fighting on all fronts.

Shortly after that, Iran’s state broadcaster said the negotiating team was leaving for Switzerland, a trip delayed from Friday. State media said the team includes parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and central bank and oil officials, among others. The deal calls for Iran’s assets to be unfrozen.

The U.S. disputed Iran’s announcement on the strait. “Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic continues to flow, and U.S. forces are monitoring the situation to ensure this remains the case,” said Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command. The military said 55 merchant ships transited Saturday with more than 17 million barrels of oil.

Iran’s team departs for talks as uncertainty grows

Negotiations toward a final agreement will begin once key commitments are upheld, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said. If they are not, “the memorandum of understanding as a whole will be jeopardized.”

U.S. Vice President JD Vance confirmed that top negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were in Switzerland and working through technical details of anticipated negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. The interim deal gives negotiators 60 days to reach a nuclear agreement, but that can be extended.

Vance told Fox News that he expects to leave for Switzerland in “the next couple of days.”

As part of efforts to revive direct talks, Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Araghchi in Tehran earlier Saturday, according to officials in Islamabad who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The global economy braced for more uncertainty.

Ships began transiting after the interim U.S.-Iran agreement was signed earlier in the week, a milestone that left plenty of questions unanswered. The U.S. lifted its blockade of Iran’s ports and now allows Tehran to sell its oil freely — terms that have left some in Congress asking whether the war was worth it.

Israeli attacks in Lebanon kill at least 16

A Hezbollah official told The Associated Press that Iran informed the militant group that Tehran will not reopen the strait until Israel announces publicly that it will comply with a “comprehensive ceasefire” in Lebanon and an end to military operations there. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

The official said Hezbollah will commit to a ceasefire if Israel does.

An Israeli military official, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, later said the military had received “updated directives from the political echelon to cease fire.” The official said the military is operating in a defensive manner in Lebanon, which includes the right to respond to Hezbollah attacks.

The official also said five Israeli soldiers had been killed in the past 48 hours in southern Lebanon.

Earlier Saturday, Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon killed at least 16 people, including two children, hours after reports emerged of a ceasefire agreement there. Seven people were trapped under rubble after strikes hit the southern city of Nabatiyeh and nearby villages, Lebanon’s National News Agency said.

The death toll in the latest war between Israel and Hezbollah has surpassed 4,000, Lebanon’s health ministry later announced.

An Israeli military official said Hezbollah fired more than 50 projectiles at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon overnight. Israel’s army said it struck dozens of Hezbollah targets and militants.

On Friday, the Israeli ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter, said Israel “remains firmly committed to an immediate ceasefire” if Hezbollah honors the agreement and ceases hostilities.

Earlier Saturday, Hezbollah said it had committed to the ceasefire but blamed Israel for violating it Friday night and said it would repel attacks by Israeli troops.

The conflict could sink the US-Iran deal

Neither Israel nor Hezbollah are signatories to the deal between the U.S. and Iran.

Hezbollah and Israel went to war two days after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, with Hezbollah firing rockets and drones at northern Israel and Israel seizing large swaths of southern Lebanon.

A new round of U.S.-backed talks between the Lebanese government and Israel is expected in Washington next week.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to keep Israeli forces in southern Lebanon until any threat to Israel is eliminated. Hezbollah has refused to halt its attacks unless Israel commits to withdrawing from Lebanon.

Fighting continues near the Israel-Lebanon border

A strike on Lebanon’s Barish village killed four members of a family: parents and two children. In Arab Salim village, a body was pulled from a destroyed house, and in Doueir and Kfar Rumman villages, drone strikes killed a person on a motorcycle and a Lebanese soldier. Nine people were killed in strikes in Qannarit, Sohmor and Shehour villages.

Israeli jets flew low over the coastal city of Tyre. Residents told The Associated Press they were relieved that Tyre had been spared in recent days, but now they were reminded that the war is not over.

“Our entire lives would change if there’s a ceasefire,” said one resident, Hussein Khoshman.

Some residents of northern Israel doubted the fighting would stop. “I don’t believe in a ceasefire because it doesn’t exist,” said Miriam Hod in Metula.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Saturday announced that federal authorities had made “multiple arrests” of people he said were vandalizing the Reflecting Pool as he struggled to explain why the $14-million-plus rehabilitation project he launched for the nation’s 250th anniversary seemingly backfired.

Trump said his predecessors had let the pool turn an algae-stained green and that he’d line it with “American flag blue” so it better reflected the Washington Monument. But after the new pool was unveiled, its blue tinge quickly became a familiar green. Workers treated it with chemicals to kill the algae, but then the painted blue lining on the bottom began to peel.

On Friday night, Trump posted about the pool.

“We’ve had some real problems with Vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool,” he posted on his social media site Friday night. “Just like three days ago, they destroyed the grass outside of the Pool, they’ve also done everything possible to hurt the inside surface that was just installed.”

He offered no details to substantiate his claim.

Agencies responsible for law enforcement and upkeep on the National Mall — the U.S. Park Police, National Park Service and Interior Department — did not respond to requests for comment. Trump on Saturday followed up by posting that Park Police “have arrested multiple individuals for vandalizing our Nations magnificent Reflecting Poll,” correcting his spelling to “Pool” later.

He went on: “Who would do such a thing? These are very serious crimes having to do with the destruction of National Monuments. Years in jail!”

Trump later acknowledged in a post that the Reflecting Pool will need to be repaired, yet again, to restore it to “an equal level of Beauty” as before. “We met with contractors today, will probably be forced to release and drain much of the water in order to do the necessary repairs, but will have them done as quickly as possible,” he wrote.

One man arrested was David Hearn, 67, of Bethesda, Maryland, who owned a company that made composite used to build watercraft. He said he stopped by the pool during his 64-mile bike ride Friday to see what was going on.

Hearn, a former Olympic canoe racer, told The Associated Press that he reached into the pool because he wanted to examine the peeling new coating. He said he briefly touched a chunk that was still attached to the side of the pool, then let go shortly after a park worker told him to.

But, Hearn said, he was then detained by National Guard troops and Park Police for five hours before being released Friday night.

“I’m a curious citizen,” Hearn said in a telephone interview. “I reached down to see what it felt like. It was very rubbery.”

The Washington Post first reported Hearn’s arrest, and he said he has a date to appear in court next month and is looking for legal help.

Even if someone pulled ribbons of paint from the side of the pool, it would not explain the clouds of algae in green water and swaths of loose blue paint detached from the bottom.

Trump insisted something nefarious has been going on at the scene. “No different than the chemicals that were used on the National Mall, they used something similar in the Reflecting Pool to try to destroy and demean our beautiful work,” he posted Friday evening.

That was an apparent reference to the discovery of large numbers etched in discolored grass on the National Mall the week before: “86 47.” Authorities said the numbers could have been meant as a threat to Trump, the 47th president. The number 86 can be slang for “getting rid of.” They are investigating.

Trump’s claims came after days of negative attention to the state of the pool, which has drawn television cameras and curious onlookers.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — As World Cup fever sweeps Mexico City, one of the tournament’s biggest fan favorites isn’t a player, coach or official mascot.

Joining Merlin the duck in the pantheon of heart-stealers is Osito, an 8-year-old rescue poodle mix who’s become an unlikely sensation after arriving at Mexico’s opening match perched on the back of a cargo bicycle, dressed in a Mexico jersey, sunglasses and a cap.

As thousands of fans streamed toward the stadium last week for the tournament opener, many stopped to snap photos, pet the dog and post videos online. Within hours, Osito was appearing on international broadcasts and spreading across social media, transforming the bicycle-riding dog into one of the World Cup’s most charming viral stars.

For his owner, Jorge Rangel, the attention is less about internet fame than the companionship he shares with the dog who accompanies him almost everywhere. For the past two years, Osito has joined Rangel on his daily rounds delivering household products across Mexico City.

“More than a dog, he’s my daily companion,” Rangel, 50, said.

They travel together on a specially adapted cargo bicycle, where Osito sits calmly in a back compartment, greeting passersby and drawing smiles from strangers.

The arrangement began by chance. One day, Rangel placed the dog in a delivery box attached to his bicycle and took him for a short ride. Osito seemed to enjoy it. Over time, Rangel added cushions, adjusted the setup and gradually brought him along on longer trips through the city. Before long, the pair became a familiar sight.

Now, children rush over to greet Osito, strangers stop to take photographs and some initially mistake him for a stuffed animal because he sits so still, often dressed in one of his many outfits.

“He has a very gentle temperament. Everybody wants to meet him,” Rangel said.

When the World Cup arrived, Rangel saw an opportunity to introduce Osito — whose name means “little bear” — to an even larger audience.

A devoted soccer fan, he spent weeks preparing for the tournament, gathering accessories and adapting a pair of sunglasses to fit the dog. He dressed Osito in a national team jersey and decorated the bicycle, hoping to stand out among the crowds heading to the stadium.

“It exceeded all my expectations,” Rangel said of the response.

What appears to resonate most with fans is not the costume or the viral fame, but the relationship between the man and the dog. Rangel adopted Osito years ago, during a difficult period in his life, and describes him as an emotional lifeline.

“I didn’t know what it meant to love an animal until Osito came into my life,” Rangel said.

Today, the two spend nearly every day together. If Rangel leaves without him, Osito protests with something he rarely does: bark.

Their bond is evident to the strangers who encounter them on the streets. Rangel recalls people approaching him to say that seeing Osito had brightened an otherwise stressful day. Some have thanked the pair simply for making them smile.

Now, as World Cup celebrations continue, videos of Osito keep circulating and requests for photographs remain constant. Yet each morning, Rangel and Osito climb aboard their bicycle and head back into the streets of Mexico City, where they continue working, greeting strangers and spreading moments of joy.

For Rangel, that remains the most meaningful part of the story.

The television appearances and viral fame are gratifying, he said. But what matters most is that people see the affection between a man and his dog — a bond that has unexpectedly become one of the World Cup’s most endearing images.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Hamilton County teen on Friday said he’s excited for his first convention as a voting delegate.

Jackson Massillamany, who just turned 18 and graduated from high school in May, is no stranger to politics. His father, Mario, is the chair of the Hamilton County Republican Party and his mother, Amy, serves on the Hamilton County Council.

Jackson said he signed up to be a delegate at this weekend’s Indiana Republican Party convention in Fort Wayne after Mario asked if he was interested.

“It’s kinda cool to see how this is done and what my dad actually does,” he said. “At first, I wasn’t really excited for it, but I’m here now and I’m having a blast.”

Mario Massillamany, who is a contributor to “All INdiana Politics,” said Jackson is the youngest delegate at the convention. He said he has been taking Jackson along to party functions ever since he was an infant.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to get more active and involved in politics, and I think we need to try and get the younger generations involved in our political process,” he said. “I think this is a great opportunity for him to come here, have a good experience and then go back and talk to his friends about why it’s important to get involved.”

Jackson will be one of 1,800 delegates tasked with picking a nominee for secretary of state. It’s a closely watched race. Current Secretary of State Diego Morales, who is seeking a second term, has faced numerous controversies since he took office. Knox County Clerk David Shelton and conservative activist and 2024 gubernatorial candidate Jamie Reitenour have been running against Morales for months. Last month, Max Engling, a staffer for Sen. Jim Banks and a 2024 congressional candidate, joined the race at the last minute with Banks’ backing.

The Republican winner in November will have to face Bayh family scion Beau Bayh, a Democrat, along with Libertarian Lauri Shillings and, potentially, former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, who is running as an independent under the Lincoln Party label.

Mario said he’s telling Jackson to keep his eyes and ears open and to meet with all of the weekend’s candidates.

Both Massillamanys said the key to getting young people to vote and to get politically involved is to, first, encourage them to register to vote and, second, to elevate more young people who are in politics.

“I feel like many people are scared to be involved in politics because nobody else younger does it,” Jackson said. “So, like, me and other people my age, being able to reach out to others to try and get involved, I feel like, is the best way for people my age to get involved.”

Delegates to the 2026 Indiana Republican Party convention will make their selections on Saturday. Besides secretary of state candidates, they will choose nominees for state treasurer and state comptroller. The current occupants of those offices, Daniel Elliott and Elise Nieshalla, respectively, are running for second terms and are unopposed.

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — Visitors to Grand Canyon National Park are being warned about extreme temperatures that will hit the popular destination early next week after a recent increase in heat-related incidents in the inner canyon, including the deaths of three hikers.

The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat watch at the Grand Canyon for midday Monday through Tuesday, forecasting temperatures that could reach or exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) at the low-elevation Phantom Ranch.

People are “strongly advised” to avoid hiking in the middle of the day, the National Park Service said this week in a statement following a “recent influx of heat-related incidents.”

An extreme heat watch was in effect June 16 when two hikers, ages 67 and 68, were found dead on the North Kaibab Trail, which the NPS describes as the most difficult of the major inner canyon trails. The service said they appeared to have succumbed to symptoms of heat-related illness.

A third person, 72, died June 12 along the South Kaibab Trail after becoming ill from the heat, NPS said.

About 90 miles (145 kilometers) to the south, Oak Creek Canyon visitors and residents were evacuated late Friday as a wildfire burned hundreds of acres just north of Sedona.

Much of the Western U.S. from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast saw above-average temperatures Saturday and with even hotter weather anticipated for early next week. Officials also warned that the prolonged dry, hot weather and relatively low humidity increased the risk of fire danger.

Extreme heat increases risk of hiking at the Grand Canyon

Park and weather officials alike emphasize to visitors that hiking conditions can be deceiving. Temperatures at the rim of the Grand Canyon are often 20 to 25 degrees cooler than what hikers will experience at the bottom.

“It’s just a hot place at the bottom of the Grand Canyon,” said Justin Johndrow, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Flagstaff. Johndrow warned that the region is approaching the hottest period of the year before rain monsoon season later in the summer offers some relief.

Hikers may have cooler temperatures and an easier time going downhill to start the descending trails, but they face an intense climb of thousands of feet in elevation and much hotter bottom-of-the-canyon temperatures to get back up. Those conditions can cause heat illness symptoms to sneak up on visitors.

“That’s very strenuous even on a mild day,” Johndrow said of the hike back up to the rim. “Throw in temperatures of 105 to 110 degrees, and that causes some pretty bad problems.”

Wildfire near Oak Creek Canyon posed risk to public safety

A federal interagency team and at least a dozen local agencies were working to combat the blaze, which was burning roughly 500 acres (200 hectares) of very steep and rough terrain near Oak Creek Canyon, said Dick Fleishman, fire information officer with the Southwest area complex incident management team.

The fire was concentrated in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain wilderness area about 7 miles (11 kilometers) north of Sedona, but it started to creep into the Coconino National Forest. Firefighters were working to contain the burn, to prevent it from moving toward Oak Creek Canyon, where residents and visitors were evacuated, or Sedona, and to prepare for the possibility that it does.

Fleishman said the steep slope, the nearby property at risk, the heat from the fire and the risk of post-fire flooding caused by rainwater rushing down the slope were among the reasons the Pocket Fire is particularly concerning.

“This fire ramped up in complexity quickly,” he said. “We want to try and keep it as small a footprint as possible.”

About 30 miles (50 kilometers) of the adjacent state highway was closed in both directions.

The Coconino National Forest issued a formal closure Saturday afternoon for all campgrounds, picnic sites and trailheads in the area.

“For June 20,” said Fleishman, who drove through the area, “I’ve never seen it that quiet.”

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A big weekend is on the books for the annual Madam Walker Legacy Center as they host their annual Legacy Fest. 

Festivities kicked off Friday night with a performance by Teddy Riley, Guy 2.0 & Friends. Saturday celebrations continue with a free block party along Indiana Avenue.

Vendors will pack the avenue during the block party, along with live music, food trucks, and family-friendly activities.

The block party runs from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Legacy Fest shines a spotlight on music, culture, community, and the enduring legacy of Black entrepreneurship and artistry. 

This year’s Fest also highlights the 99th anniversary of the iconic Walker Theatre, a symbol of the city’s rich cultural heritage. 

I asked Kristian Little Stricklen, the president and CEO of the Madam Walker Legacy Center, about why they’ve continued to grow Legacy Fest. She credits the community for the festival’s expansion.

“The community support and feedback that we got, it’s why we continue to do it – year over year over year,” she said. “We want to make sure that we’re doing what we’re supposed to, right? To uplift Madam Walker’s legacy.”

Indiana Avenue will be closed between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Blackford streets to accommodate community festivities.

The Madam Walker Theatre anticipates a big year next year as it prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

SHARPSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A 51-year-old Kokomo man died Thursday afternoon in a single-car crash at a rural road, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office said in a Friday night news release.

Investigators think Michael Adams was southbound on County Road 800 West just south of County Road 600 North when the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze he was driving left the road and struck a tree. The crash site is about 5 miles east-northeast of the town of Sharpsville.

Adams was unrestrained, and the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy.

Callers to 911 advised that the car was locked and the driver was unresponsive. Deputies, a Sharpsville Police Department deputy marshal, and emergency medical personnel responded and gained access only to learn Adams had died.

Adams’ cause of death was not immediately known, and the Tipton County Coroner’s Office continued to investigate the death.

Tipton County, with 15,300 residents, is about an hour’s drive north of downtown Indianapolis.

SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — A Kentucky man is behind bars after Indiana State Police said he shot another driver on I-65 Friday afternoon.

ISP said troopers responded to a reported shooting around 2:38 p.m. on northbound Interstate 65 near the 27-mile marker, a few miles south of Scottsburg in Scott County. Scott County is about an hour and 13 minutes south of Indianapolis.

Preliminary investigations indicate that following a road rage incident, both vehicles, a white Mazda passenger car and a gray Ford Maverick truck, stopped in the left lane of the roadway. ISP said the driver of the Ford, identified as 28-year-old James Camden Dowdell of Shelbyville, Kentucky, shot the male driver of the Mazda.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to an area hospital before being airlifted to a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, with life-threatening injuries. ISP has not released his identity, but his family has been notified.

Dowdell, who stayed at the scene, was arrested for attempted murder and was transported to the Scott County Jail.

ISP believes this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continues.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Guerin Catholic won its first baseball state championship in school history, beating Andrean, 9-3, in the 3A state title game.

The Golden Eagles never trailed, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to jump ahead early. They scored in each of the first four innings, building a 9-1 lead.

Nolan Ratcliff had two hits and four RBI, including a bases clearing, 3 RBI double in the fourth inning that put Guerin Catholic up 9-1.

Tate Troxell was excellent on the mound for Guerin Catholic, throwing six innings and striking out 12. He allowed just one run on four hits.

This was a showdown between the top two ranked teams in 3A. Guerin Catholic finished the season with a record of 28-3-1.
