SEVERE WEATHER LATER TODAY?: The atmosphere is slowly becoming more and more unstable across Indiana. If the cloud deck breaks, and we get any sunshine, we could see some thunderstorms pop-up later this afternoon and this evening. It looks like right now the strongest storms could be west and south of Indianapolis later today. Stay with Forecast 8 as we will monitor developments throughout the day and tonight.

Warm and Humid, Unsettled Weather Coming

TODAY: The warmth and humidity from yesterday will continue today. Highs temperatures will creep close to the record high of 90°. An big storm system that spawned severe weather across the Plains states this weekend will slowly move our way over the next few days. This means that we could see a few strong thunderstorms late today and this evening. There is a slight risk that some of those thunderstorms could be severe. Damaging wind and large hail look to be the biggest threats.

THIS EVENING: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will begin this evening. Temperatures will stay in the 70s. The threat for strong thunderstorms will continue.

OVERNIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight. Lows will drop into the mid 60s.

TUESDAY: More scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, and some of those could be strong or severe. Highs will reach the mid 80s again. The biggest threats are damaging wind and large hail.

8-DAY FORECAST: More scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday and Thursday. Carb Day Friday and the 500 Festival Parade look good Saturday. Some models try to sneak some rain chances in for Sunday afternoon (can’t have an easy Race Day forecast, right?). Temperatures right now look pleasant for the Holiday Weekend with highs in the 70s.

A Warm Night

Temperatures are in the upper 70s and lower 80s with clear skies. Overnight, we stay mostly clear with lows in the mid to upper 60s.

Monday, partly sunny and dry for most with highs in the upper 80s and windy. Late in the afternoon/evening western and northern Indiana could see isolated thunderstorms. There is a slight risk for severe weather Monday night into Tuesday morning. Damaging wind and large hail will be the primary threats, along with isolated tornadoes.

Calm And Dry In Indiana

Central Indiana remains calm and clear. Forecast 8 Vipir shows the mass of severe storms in the plains states. This whole area of severe weather remains in the plains states and will not affect Indiana tonight or tomorrow afternoon. The system will rotate the storms to the north, northeast.

The Heat Continues

Right now we have partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies with humid temperatures in the low to mid 80s for most of central Indiana. The humidity is making it feel a couple degrees warmer. Tonight partly cloudy skies continue while temperatures drop into the 60s. We stay dry through most of Monday.

Monday’s high temps get even warmer with highs nearing the 90 degree mark. The record high for this day is 90 degrees. Areas in southern Indiana could reach the lower 90s. As the day continues the warm, humid air brings in isolated showers and thunderstorms for the evening and overnight.

Thunderstorms return to the Ohio Valley for Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday…stay tuned to the Forecast 8 team for updates on this developing system. As a cold front moves through central Indiana, temperatures will cool off for the rest of the week. The temperatures will fall into the upper 60s by Friday. Race weekend will be dry and clear with temperatures in the 70s.

Much Warmer Today

Temperatures are in the low to mid 80s already across central Indiana. There is humidity so it feels like the mid to upper 80s. Mostly sunny skies are found across the state too. A sprinkle is possible in eastern Indiana this afternoon. Most of us will remain dry and warm for this evening with temps in the lower 80s and upper 70s.

Here Comes The Heat

Remember last Sunday? The high was 57 and you may have given up on May. Patchy frost struck Monday morning and you may have given up on Spring in general. But if we’ve learned anything from the Pacers…we’ve learned to not give up. And now, we have to learn to Beat The Heat.

Temperatures will remain above average through Thursday. A narrow ridge of high pressure should keep most of Indiana dry until Tuesday, when the ridge begins breaking down, and a few storms could be severe. Storms are likely Tuesday night and Wednesday, and could continue into Thursday. Next weekend (for the moment) looks pretty awesome.

Two asterisks in the weather story. First: short term computer models have stubbornly painted some light showers over generally eastern Indiana for the midday hours today. Second: parts of northwest Indiana may get bitten by scattered showers and storms Monday afternoon. That could come as close as Lafayette or Kokomo.

Zero visibilities in many places south of Indy this morning, with the fog generally lifting through about 10am this morning. After that, hotter sunshine and muggy weather sticks around for a few days.

Isolated Showers

A few showers have popped up southeast of Indianapolis. These showers are moving to the northwest. If they hold together, expect a brief downpour with maybe a flash of lightning in about 20 minutes downtown. The rain chances diminish late this evening. Temperatures are in the 70s still. Overnight lows reach the mid 60s with clearing skies. Sunday, partly sunny, warm and humid with highs in the mid 80s.

Shower Near IMS

A pop up shower may just touch the north end of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the next several minutes. It is not holding together well, so maybe a sprinkle at this point.
