Indy Fuel acquires Fishers ice arena

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An affiliate company of the Indy Fuel closed a transaction Wednesday to acquire the former Forum at Fishers Ice Arena.

It will now be called the Fuel Tank at Fishers, the hockey team announced Thursday.

“We are thrilled to announce our ownership of the new Fuel Tank at Fishers,” said Indy Fuel CEO & COO Sean Hallett. “We believe this investment in youth and adult hockey underscores the Fuel’s commitment to growing the game at a grassroots level and aids in our ability to achieve our stated goal of doubling the participation in youth hockey in Central Indiana.”

The Fuel also revealed plans for a $2.5 million renovation of the arena with an expected completion date of October 2015.

The renovation will include an expanded parking lot, additional office space, a new pro shop and a new fitness center that will offer public memberships.

The team will continue to use the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Youth Arena as a primary practice facility until the completion of a proposed adjacent multi-family housing complex to house Fuel players and the construction of a fully-outfitted professional locker room.
