Friday rain causes Indy road flooding

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Heavy rain on Friday evening caused flooding in some parts of Indianapolis. Some roads on the north side were almost impassable, and many residents feared the water would come into their homes.

One man we spoke with lives near N. Sargent Road and Fall Creek Road.

“On major rains this is what we get. Probably once a year,” he said.

He described water rushing through his yard and street.

“It comes through the hill and down through the ravine and in between the two houses and there is where it’s really bad,” he said.

Residents in Lawrence dealt with the same thing.

“I thought they would at least block the road off because they’ve got construction here so that would prevent all this, but they didn’t,” said Lawrence resident John Pierce, as he watched cars try to dive through flooded streets.

“I’m just watching all this entertainment coming through, just waiting for somebody to just get stalled,” Pierce said.

He didn’t see it happen, but had this message for people driving through: “Don’t come this way. Make a detour just to be on the safe side.”
