Lawrence firefighters prepare 200 Christmas boxes for families in need

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — They typically show up to put out fires, but on Friday evening Lawrence firefighters were putting together boxes for families in need.

Volunteers plan to hand out 200 boxes with food and toys for Christmas for local families. Volunteers on Friday were gathering and sorting donated supplies.

This is the 29th years for the assistance program.

One volunteer told WISH-TV why she gives her time to the group.

“I come out to this event. The first time I helped, I saw smiling families and children and adults overcome with emotion because they were getting something they knew they wouldn’t get for their kids,” said McCordsville resident Shari Meyer.

The boxes will be handed out to families that have already been predetermined on Saturday morning.
