Family of murdered man hoping for leads in case

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Sunday morning, 45-year-old Tony Rico was found dead near his apartment on the east side.

He had been shot while walking home from work.

Tony’s brother and other family members have begun hanging signs around the neighborhood where he was killed.

They are just hoping someone has information that could lead to a suspect.

“Tony was a sweet person,” Tony’s Sister-in-Law Sharon Rico said, “He’d give anything to anybody.”

Tony Rico left work at the Rural Inn at Rural and Michigan early Sunday morning.

On his walk home, just a block to Rural and New York, he was shot and killed.

“He was right beside his house when he got shot,” Tony’s Brother Tim Rico said.

His body wasn’t found until about 9 a.m.

His brother Tim Rico said no witnesses have come forward.

“We’ve gone around asking a few questions, putting up a few signs, trying to get attention because somebody knows something,” he said, “There’s too many eyes and noses and ears in the city for somebody not to see or say something.”

As part of that effort, the family is hanging signs around the neighborhood.

There’s one hung up at Rural and New York near where the murder happened.

“I have relatives making signs that says ‘We’re all in this together, stop the killings’ because black, white, Latino, it doesn’t matter,” he said, “We’re all in the same country, we’re all in this together, we need to stop killing each other.”

Tim and Tony’s mother was shot and killed in a convenience store robbery several years ago.

The suspects were found in that case and now Tim wants the same result for his brother’s murder.

“We’re hoping they get caught soon and justice gets served for the family,” he said.

“Whoever did it or anybody that knows anything, turn themselves in or turn it in to the detectives, that way it gets resolved,” Sharon said.
